AISSM

Leading Next-Generation Technology

The Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM) was the first of its kind launched at a university in Taiwan, established to address the nation's high-tech talent shortage and the critical need to advance semiconductor technology in the AI era. Supported by NCKU’s strong research foundation in science and engineering, the Academy bridges the gap between academia and industry by offering flexibility in academic infrastructure, faculty recruitment of industry experts, budgeting, research, and training formats. Its five degree programs—Integrated Circuit Design, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Semiconductor Packaging and Testing, Key Materials, and Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing—cover the full spectrum of the semiconductor industry. These programs focus on developing future talent with a core emphasis on “data-driven & energy-sensitive” competencies, preparing students to excel in the highly competitive semiconductor field.

The 2024 NCKU AISSM Summer School hosted 78 students from 14 countries, representing various academic levels. Building on the overwhelmingly positive feedback, this year’s program aims to immerse students in even more hands-on practice, focusing on integrated circuit (IC) design, semiconductor manufacturing, and packaging. The mission is to enhance technology literacy and equip students with practical skills to thrive in a society driven by chips and automation.
